Unhurried Sundays at Classic Desserts

Updated: Jan 22, 2018

There’s something about the gentle and unhurried nature of a Sunday afternoon that calls for something indulgent and that’s where Classic Desserts comes in.

Visiting the specialty restaurant is a sensory experience like no other and while it’s perfectly fine to stop by for a quick slice of cake and a cup of coffee to take home, a planned sit down is highly recommended for the full effect.

Before you’ve even had a chance to find a place to sit, a counter lined with an assortment of baked goods and ice-cream toppings greets you warmly. Whichever table you do select has a clear view of the road outside where you can watch the Sunday afternoon traffic go by. Depending on what time you go, the café’s filled by the warm glow of the setting sun, which only makes the experience even more special.

Before I go any further, I must tell you about the menu at #ClassicDesserts. You know that feeling you get when you come across a menu that has all the best intentions but falls short just as things are looking good? This one isn’t one of them. I don’t think I’ve ever come across so many pages dedicated solely to dessert! Feeling particularly hot and sticky? There are a number of ice-cream sundaes for you to try. Dreaming of a carb-heavy, sugary breakfast? Their thick, fluffy waffles topped with your choice of gelato or fresh cream will take care of that.

The waiter usually lets you know what cakes they have that day, but I like to go in myself and watch them turning seductively in the rotating cake display. The slices are always gigantic and luscious and although my default dessert setting is anything chocolate, their carrot cake is just lush. Despite such an elaborate menu, I’m a creature of habit, so when I do go back, I always have the same thing. My top picks are their “I’ll Have What She’s Having” lava cake with a scoop of chocolate gelato and their chocolate brownie, which is honestly the best I’ve ever had; crunchy on the outside with a warm and decadent centre. I’m a recent cheesecake convert and I think Classic Desserts has played a big part. Their Oreo, Ferrero Roche, Blueberry, Tiramisu and New York Cheesecakes are only just a few of the flavours they have available.

Whatever your dessert preference, be it warm and luxurious or light and playful, Classic Desserts will surely have it. If you’ve gotten to the end of this post and are already half way out the door, let me know what you think when you get back!
